Whoever claimed that getting a manicure is calming hasn’t experienced the frantic dilemma of choosing between various acrylic nail colors in just 15 minutes. It’s a struggle between opting for a simple bubble gum pink or committing to an elaborate design. If you’re like the beauty editors at ELLE.com, your Instagram-saved posts are brimming with nail inspiration. Whether you seek nail art ideas or want to stay updated on the latest color trends, fashion week runways serve as another wellspring of inspiration.

Reflecting a crystal ball of trends, the spring/summer 2024 runways showcased an abundance of nail art embracing femininity, drawing from the widespread balletcore trend. Traditional styles, such as the French manicure, received contemporary updates with chrome accents and silver chrome nails—trends that gained traction during fall/winter ’23 (courtesy of Beyoncé and the Renaissance Tour) and are expected to persist into the upcoming year. The obsession with logos remains strong, while stiletto and coffin nail lengths continue to elongate and become more intricate. Short nails, championed by the “clean girl” movement, maintain their dominance.

We spoke with Natalie Minerva, a celebrity nail artist and OPI Global Ambassador, to discuss the spring/summer 2024 trends showcased on fashion week runways that captivated us. Below, explore the top nine nail trends anticipated for this spring and summer.

1. LONG NAILS

While clean and minimalist nail styles remain timeless, stiletto nails retain their allure. At a Blonds event, elaborate and towering tips are a must-have to complement the sultry and spirited ensembles on the catwalk. In their spring/summer 2024 presentation (shown here), models sported pointed stiletto nails adorned with crystals, enhancing the dramatic effect of the dark and brooding makeup.

2. Priscavera

In Priscavera’s nail creations, chrome was the dominant theme. Sonji, the lead nail artist, curated 30 different chrome designs for the event, ranging from metallic green to bronze gold, and even clear nails embellished with 3D decorations.

3.THE NAME GAME

During Peter Do’s runway debut as the new Creative Director for Helmut Lang, nail art took on a playful twist reminiscent of a game of Scrabble. Instead of the logo-heavy designs seen in previous seasons, models sported clear manicures with the letters H-E-L-M-U-T L-A-N-G spelled out in black font. Find all the specifics below.

4. KATE SPADE

If Scrabble isn’t your style, opt for showcasing your love for your preferred brand through logos. Renowned nail artist Julie Kandalec skillfully painted the Kate Spade dot noel monogram onto nails, providing a modern twist to the logomania trend. The look was completed with a sleek black French design.

5. SKINNY FRENCH

While skinny jeans might be going out of fashion, skinny French manicures are becoming trendy. Adding a thin line transforms this subtle manicure into a stylish Parisian look.

6. ALICE + OLIVIA

Recall when vibrant French manicures were the essential summer nail trend? The same goes for the skinny French trend! This red skinny French manicure complements a timeless red lipstick flawlessly.

7. GO CHROME

Chrome nails, popularized by Beyoncé, are currently in vogue and show no signs of fading anytime soon. According to Minerva, this trend is likely to continue into the Spring/Summer season and remains versatile year-round.

8. PRABAL GURUNG

“Three-dimensional chrome French nails, similar to those showcased at Parabal Gurung, are set to become a major trend for Spring/Summer ’24,” Minerva reveals. She expresses enthusiasm for what she describes as a modern take on the classic French manicure.

9. BALLETCORE

Mirror Palais introduces a refreshed interpretation of balletcore beauty with a pink, pearly chrome variation. Minerva describes it as a timeless yet contemporary look that combines nostalgia with modern elegance.

10. PAT BO

If pink isn’t your preference, you can still embrace the balletcore trend by opting for a pearly white or vanilla chrome appearance.

11. BARELY THERE

“Without a manicure, don’t despair.” At Michael Kors, Jin Soon Choi prioritized nail health, providing models with subtly painted nails using a light pink polish.

12. PROENZA SCHOULER

Proenza Schouler showcased models with neatly groomed, short nails on the catwalk. It exemplified minimalism in manicures at its best!

13. JASON WU

The use of negative space is expected to make a significant impact on manicure trends for Spring/Summer ’24, offering a playful approach to minimalist nail designs while still incorporating creativity. Minerva notes that employing simple lines and dots in black can result in a straightforward yet striking manicure.

14. FEMININE TOUCH

Minerva predicts that for the Spring/Summer ’24 season, there will be an abundance of shimmering nail trends that evoke a dreamlike sensation. Anticipate seeing frosted chromes, soft baby pink shimmers, and translucent milky lavenders.

15. WHITE OUT

In a departure from Saweetie’s lyrics about “ten white toes” always being on point, Alice + Olivia embraced a monochromatic minimalist vibe, extending it to the nails.

16. LIBERTINE

Models at Libertine sported white nails, offering a fitting choice for those embracing a clean and minimalist aesthetic.

17. RED-Y FOR SHORT NAILS

In a concise message, consider opting for short and red nails for Spring 2024. While red nails are typically associated with longer lengths, Proenza Schouler demonstrates how striking the color can appear on neatly manicured short nails.
